About Me §
Hi! My name is Zoey Ahmed. I am a transgender Arab/British woman, currently studying to get a Bachelor in Computer Science. I am also known as (Princess) Zelda by close friends, or “that crazy rat witch” online.
As a developer, I mostly contribute to and blog about a lot of free and open source software (FOSS), particularly about my experiences and work within GNOME. I have been a GNOME contributor since March 2025, and a fan of GNOME for longer then I can remember. I have helped develop and maintain many different libraries and applications using, but not limited to, GTK, Libadwaita, Python, GObject C, GObject/GLib and WebkitGTK, with the full list on the portfolio section of my website.
Outside of GNOME, I do have my own smaller projects, and contribute to many KDE projects and other independent FOSS projects.
I currently use a Lenovo Ideapad 7 Pro, and a custom built gaming PC from about 5 years ago. My main OS is GNOME OS, with NixOS and Arch for homelab and occassional tinkering. I use GNOME Web as my primary browser, KDE’s Kate as my IDE and KdenLive as my video editor of choice.
I am also a huge music nerd. I can currently play bass at a somewhat proficient level, and I listen to a lot of music of different genres, from rock and metal, to glitch-core, industrial, and new-wave/electronic. My all-time favorite bands are Linkin Park, Pink Floyd, Evanescence, Limp Bizkit, System Of A Down, TOOL, Depeche Mode, Slipknot and Bad Religion. I also enjoy having listening parties with my friends to discover new music together :)
My favorite TV shows are a mix of sitcoms and dramas like Brooklyn 99, Better Call Saul, X-Files, Dexter, The Good Place and House MD, and animated shows like the Owl House, The Amazing Digital Circus, and Avatar: The Last Airbender. I also like the Matrix and John Wick movies, but I’ll admit I’m not much of a movie person.
My current favorite video game fluctuates a lot, but my all-time favorites are Helldivers 2, Team Fortress 2, Payday 2 and Minecraft. I also really like Genshin Impact, which includes my favorite character from all fiction, the ass-trologist Mona Megistus 💜.
